The Christchurch Seasons

Christchurch offers many interesting and exciting things to do all year around

Summer

Summer is  the obvious time to come and escape the northern winter. Al Fresco dining on the Strip, overlooking the beautiful River Avon with its gently flowing waters and graceful willow trees. Watch the punts as they glide down the river , while you sip a glass of delicious local wine.Go for a walk along one of the yet almost empty beaches, go surfing or wind-surfing on the river estuary. The days are long and very warm (20-30 C.) Canterbury has one of the lowest rainfalls in New Zealand, rain is rare in the summer , so it’s never humid.

Autumn

The Autumn trees look splendid with the change of colours .Its a good time to go tramping up at Victoria Park, walking through the trees .Take a picnic, dine overlooking the beautiful vistas of the city below. The days may often be warm, with the odd shower.

Winter

Winter is a good time to come to Christchurch and go skiing or snowboarding, the nearest ski fields are only an hour and a half away. The snow is great, the views breathtaking and the fields are very uncrowned by European standards, no long queues for the lifts here! Days can still sometimes be warm enough to wear a T-shirt but usually you’ll need a jacket, it will be cold when the sun goes down, especially on the ski slopes.

Spring

In Spring, the Garden City will be looking colourful with the spring flowers and blossom on the trees.
The inhabitants following the English tradition take great pride in their gardens.
You must visit Hagley Park to look at the magnificent display of flowering cherry trees.
